I met Lindsay one night when my friend Lauren had organized an “80′s Fun Run” downtown. Not my typical Monday night, we ended up at Mass Ave, singing karaoke. Lindsay was new to Indianapolis and eager to meet friends, she joined us. With her bubbly personality, she fit in seamlessly.

Fast forward a few months to March. I received a text message from Lauren to tell me that Lindsay had been diagnosed with breast cancer and would we consider her for The Sussy Project. My heart dropped. The big C word isn’t easy to hear anytime, but she is my age and dealing with something so scary. Of course we wanted to help bring a smile to her face in any way. So we did. Here is what Lindsay says about her Sussy experience.

I received a nomination for a Sussy after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Needless to say, my diagnosis was surprising, disheartening, and frightening. Everyone asked me what they could do for me, and The Sussy Project was the perfect way to show support: a gift just because!

When I first learned that I had been chosen, I was again surprised, excited, and a little curious.  About one week after I received the nomination, a box of delicious chocolates arrived. An out of town friend was visiting at the time, which gave me the opportunity to share the good work of The Sussy Project. She was very impressed.

I am somewhat new to Indianapolis, and I know only a handful of friends outside of work. It’s both heartwarming and comforting to know that I have support from good people willing to do good things for others. Thank you!

Please keep Lindsay in your thoughts as she conquers this disease. I know her outlook and positive attitude will prevail.
